Compliance over care
Doctors are tethered to the computer.
If you’re a either doctor or a patient, you’ve certainly noticed this.
Studies have various estimates, but in the office, doctors spend between half and two-thirds of their time on the computer instead of being face-to-face with patients. One study showed that in a surgical resident’s 24-hour overnight shift, 20 of those hours the resident spent logged into the computer. Meanwhile, the more the doctor is stuck on the computer, the worse their burnout gets.
